Marvel Entertainment, LLC is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. It is an entertainment company that produces comics through Marvel Comics, films and television shows through Marvel Studios, and video games through Marvel Games.
Magazine Management
In at most 1947, Martin Goodman founded Magazine Management,
Marvel Comics Group
In 1968, Martin Goodman sold his company Magazine Management to the Perfect Film and Chemical Corporation.
In 1973, Perfect Film and Chemical Corporation was renamed Cadence Industries and Magazine Management was renamed Marvel Comics Group.
When the video game industry began seeking licenses for popular intellectual properties, Marvel Comics Group oversaw video games that were based on Marvel comics.
Marvel Entertainment Group
In 1983, Marvel Comics Group was sold to New World Entertainment. On December 2, 1986, New World Entertainment was sold to MacAndrews & Forbes, owned by investor Ronald Perelman. Marvel Comics Group was merged with New World Entertainment, resulting in Marvel Entertainment Group.
Upon its formation, video games based on Marvel comics were overseen by Marvel Entertainment Group.
Toy Biz
Toy Biz, Inc. was formed in 1988.
Marvel Entertainment Group files for bankruptcy
In December 1996, Marvel Entertainment Group filed for bankruptcy.
In December 1997, Toy Biz purchased Marvel from the banks that held the rights after the bankruptcy.
Marvel Enterprises
In June 1998, Toy Biz and Marvel were merged to bring it out of bankruptcy, resulting in Marvel Enterprises.
After its formation, video games based on Marvel comics were overseen directly by Marvel Enterprises.
Marvel Entertainment
In September 2005, Marvel Enterprises was renamed to Marvel Entertainment.
Video games were overseen by Marvel Entertainment until the formation of Marvel Games in 2009.
Acquisition by The Walt Disney Company
In 2009, Marvel Entertainment and its subsidiaries were acquired by Disney.
