Foundation

Data East Corporation (DECO) was founded in Japan by Tetsuo Fukuda on April 20, 1976.

Closure

Data East closed after bankruptcy on June 25, 2003.

G-Mode acquired the Data East trademark and most of its intellectual property in February 2004. Most of the other assets owned by Data East were transferred to Tactron Corporation, the asset management company owned by the Fukuda Company.

Paon Corporation acquired some Data East intellectual property including Chelnov, the Glory of Hercules series, Karnov's Revenge, the Kuuga series, and Windjammers. Additionally, the rights to the Jake Hunter series belong to Arc System Works, and the rights to the Metal Max series belong to Kadokuwa.

In September 2010, D4 Enterprise acquired the rights to Data East's Robocop games.
