Mac OS is the name of a series of operating systems created by Apple.
History
Mac OS System 1 was released with the release of the original Apple Macintosh on January 24, 1984.
A version of Mac OS was pre-installed on every Macintosh from 1984 until 2001.
The Mac OS line lasted from Mac OS 1.0 until Mac OS 9.2.2.
Mac OS X
Mac OS X, later known as OS X and then macOS, succeeded it in 2001.
