Sega AM Research & Development No. 3 (セガ第二AM研究開発部1 Sega Daini Ē Emu Kenkyū Kaihatsu Bu 3) was a Japanese video game developer that was a division of Sega.
It was commonly referred to as Sega AM3 and Sega R&D3.
Sega AM3
In 1991, Sega AM3 was founded. Several Sega AM1 members were moved to Sega AM3.
Sega Software R&D Dept. 3
In 1999, Sega merged its amusement and consumer divisions. Sega AM3 became Sega Software R&D Dept. 3 on May 11, 1999.
Hitmaker
In 2000, Sega split its development groups into semi-autonomous companies. Sega Software R&D Dept. 3 became Hitmaker on April 21, 2000.
Restructuring as a result of the Sega Sammy merger
In 2004, Sega and Sammy merged forming Sega Sammy Holdings. Sega's divisions were restructured again. On April 1, 2004, Hitmaker reverted to Sega AM3.
Sega AM3 merged into Sega AM1
On April 1, 2009, Sega AM3 was merged into Sega AM1, with some former Sega AM3 employees being moved to Sega AM2.
