Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. (セガサミーホールディングス株式会社, Sega Samī Hōrudingusu Kabushikigaisha), trading as Sega Sammy, is a holding company created from the merger of Sega and Sammy.
History
In February 2003, Sega and Sammy announced their intentions to merge, with Sammy founder Hajime Satomi leading the new company. However, before the end of the year, the deal fell apart.
Satomi purchased a controlling share of 22.4% of Sega through Sammy and forced out Sega's executives. Satomi was installed as chairman. In May 2004, Sega and Sammy again announced intentions of merging. Sammy's hostile takeover of Sega finalized on October 1, 2004, forming Sega Sammy Holdings.
Hajime Satomi owns a majority in Sega Sammy, with 11.97% of shares.
