The Oregon Trail is a series of educational video games, originally designed by Dan Rawitsch, Bill Heinemann, and Paul Dillenberger in 1971 before being published by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium in 1975, in which a wagon train attempts to make the dangerous trek along the Oregon Trail.
The historical Oregon Trail was a large-wheeled wagon route in the United States that ran east to northwest, connecting Independence, Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon. The trail was laid by fur trappers from around 1811 to 1840 and became a highly publicized emigrant route for wagon trains until the transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869.
