Costume Quest is a role-playing game developed by the Double Fine Productions team, and was directed by Tasha Sounart.

Plot

Children's costumes become the characters that they are pretending to be, allowing the kids to fight epic battles against monsters. The group leader's sibling is taken by a monster from another realm called Repugnia, when mistaken for a piece of candy corn. A trio of kids must travel across their neighborhood to fight the Repugnians to get their friend back.

Development

Costume Quest was originally prototyped during the 2009 Amnesia Fortnight. The Costume Quest prototype was released for Windows as part of the first public Amnesia Fortnight session in 2012.

Release history

It was released for PlayStation Network on PlayStation 3 on October 19, 2010, on Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360 on October 20, 2010, for Windows on October 15, 2011, for macOS and Linux on May 7, 2013, and for iOS on October 10, 2013.

It was released via backward compatibility on Xbox One on May, 7 2019.

Grubbins on Ice

In the Grubbins On Ice downloadable content for Costume Quest, the kids go through the portal to the monster world of Repugnia to save their friend Lucy.

Grubbins on Ice was released for Xbox 360 on December 8, 2010 and for PlayStation 3 on December 21, 2010. It was included with the releases of Costume Quest on Windows, macOS and Linux. It was also made available for backward compatibility on Xbox One at the same time as Costume Quest was released on that platform.
