Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge was the second adventure game in the Monkey Island series by LucasArts. It used the SCUMM scripting language.
Plot
The plot of this game was darker than the first, which was reflected in the music and the atmosphere of the game.
After the dreaded pirate Captain LeChuck is raised from the dead by his henchman Largo LeGrand, Guybrush Threepwood searches for Big Whoop, a treasure with powers that can get rid of LeChuck for good.
Development
It was developed in a version of SCUMM that allowed it to have a new inventory system with icons for items. This version was later used in The Secret of Monkey Island in its VGA CD release.
It was also the last game by LucasArts to be made by all three of the original creators of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman. However, Dave Grossman would later make Tales of Monkey Island at Telltale Games with input during the early brainstorming sessions from Ron Gilbert. Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman would also later make Return to Monkey Island at Ron Gilbert's Terrible Toybox studio.
Versions
The original version was released in December 1991 and had EGA and VGA modes. The original version had an easy mode. This mode was disabled in the version included in the 1997 Monkey Island Madness compilation CD and in the Special Edition.
The Special Edition was released on July 7, 2010, and had new high-definition graphics, music performed with live instruments, and voice acting. The VGA version of Monkey Island 2 is accessible in the Special Edition at the press of a button. The original data files can also be extracted to be used in ScummVM.
