Premiering on August 31, 2007, she is part of a Japanese multimedia franchise, including music, video games, comics, television series, and films.
Hatsune Miku is the playable character in the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series. Miku is a guest character in several anime series, including Dropkick on My Devil!!, Sayonara, Zetsubō Sensei, and Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion.
While the synthesizer software remains commercial, on December 14, 2012, the illustration of Hatsune Miku was licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial 3.0 Unported license, which allows the free use of the character for non-commercial use provided Crypton Future Media is credited as the creator.
