Amiibo is a toys-to-life format by Nintendo in which the figures unlock features like costumes, abilities, and characters in supported games.
The amiibo figures are equipped with an NTAG near-field communication chip which is read by a reader on a Nintendo console.
Compatibility
They are compatible with certain games on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS systems with a Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory, Wii U systems, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 2DS systems, and Nintendo Switch systems.
