Xuan-Yuan Sword (軒轅劍, Xuān-Yuán Jiàn), also known as Xuan Yuan Sword (軒轅劍, Xuān Yuán Jiàn), is a Taiwanese role-playing video game developed by the DOMO Team (狂徒製作群) within Softstar Entertainment. It is the first game in the Xuan-Yuan Sword series.

Development

Softstar Entertainment greenlit a role-playing video game based on the Xuan-Yuan Sword, a famous sword in ancient Chinese legend, which was said to have been forged by Emperor Huangdi.

The lead programmer, Tsai Ming-hung, chose the name DOMO Team (DOMO小組, DOMO Xiǎozǔ) as he sought to credit the entire development team. This name was chosen from the Japanese word for "friend", tomo (とも), to mean that all team members were friends, without distinction of rank.

During the development of Xuan-Yuan Sword, Ming-hung had to serve in the military, so the story was divided into two games. Because of this, Xuan-Yuan Sword 2 was a direct sequel to Xuan-Yuan Sword.

Releases

Xuan-Yuan Sword was released for DOS in Taiwan on October 13, 1990.

It was released worldwide on Windows through Steam, bundled within Xuan-Yuan Sword 2, on February 8, 2021. However, the game text remained in Chinese.
