Pixar Animation Studios, commonly known simply as Pixar, is a computer animation studio owned by The Walt Disney Company.
Lucasfilm Computer Division
In 1979, George Lucas started the Lucasfilm Computer Division, which was a division of Lucasfilm that was started when Lucas wanted to branch out into computers.
Pixar Animation Studios
The Lucasfilm Graphics Group was sold to Steve Jobs on February 3, 1986 and became known as Pixar Animation Studios.
Acquisition by The Walt Disney Company
In 2006, Disney purchased Pixar. In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm and its subsidiaries, including LucasArts and Industrial Light and Magic. This brought the three parts of the original Lucasfilm Computer Division together under the same parent company once again.
