Mario Bros. Special is a platform game released only in Japan for the PC-6001, PC-6601, PC-8800, PC-9800, FM-7, Sharp X1, Sharp MZ, and Hitachi S1 computers.
It was developed and published by Hudson Soft based on Mario Bros. and was officially licensed by Nintendo.
Plot
Italian-American plumbers named Mario and Luigi enter the sewers and complete various objectives in order to clear pipes and remove various creatures from the sewer system.
Gameplay
Despite having the aesthetics of ‘’Mario Bros.’’, the game differs significantly from its source material. Each stage has its own objectives that must be completed to finish it. For instance, one stage has moving platforms that Mario must jump onto plus levers that must all be turned on to open the exit of a stage. On the other hand, another level has Mario and various creatures walking along a wire. Mario has to jump on the wire while a creature is on it to shake the wire and cause it to flip over allowing Mario to jump on it and remove it from the stage.
