A compact cassette, musicassette, cassette tape, or cassette, or tape is an analog magnetic tape storage format.

Introduction

The compact cassette was introduced as an audio storage format at the Berlin Radio Show on August 30, 1963. It was introduced in North America in November 1964 under the Norelco brand.

Data storage

In 1972, the compact cassette began to be used as storage media for microcomputers by Hewlett Packard in the HP 9830.
