The Macintosh was the fifth line of computers released by Apple Computer.
Operating System
Macintosh computers ran on the Mac OS Operating System.
Models
The 128K Apple Macintosh was released on January 24, 1984. It was followed by the Macintosh 512K on September 10, 1984.
The Macintosh Plus followed on January 16, 1986, then the Macintosh 512Ke in April 1986, the Macintosh SE on March 2, 1987, the Macintosh Classic on October 15, 1990, and the Macintosh Classic II on October 21, 1991,
A color model, the Macintosh Color Classic, was released on February 10, 1993. The Macintosh Color Classic II followed later that year.
Legacy
The Macintosh line was followed by the Macintosh II, Macintosh Quadra, Macintosh Centris, Macintosh LC, and Power Macintosh lines.
The Macintosh name was shortened to Mac in 1998. Apple continues to sell computers under the Mac line.
