AOL Desktop was previously known as America Online from version 1.0 for Mac OS in 1989 to version 6.0 for Windows on September 5, 2000 and as AOL from version 7.0 for Windows on October 17, 2001 to version 9.6 for Windows on November 10, 2010.
It is an internet suite that combines e-mail, a web browser, and instant messaging.
Reverse-engineered server
America Online 3.0 for 16-bit and 32-bit Windows has been reverse-engineered by fans and a fan server known as RE-AOL is available to bring it back online.
