Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, also known as Sam & Max: Season Two, was the third game in the Sam & Max series. It was a five episode adventure game released by Telltale Games from November 2007 to May 2008 on Windows, first on GameTap, and later on the Telltale Store, GOG.com, and Steam, as well as at retail by Telltale Games and Atari, S.A.
The entire season was released for Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360 on October 14, 2009, and through the PlayStation Network on PlayStation 3 on October 17, 2009, at retail for Wii on March 9, 2010, and on iOS from February 2012 to April 2012.
It was released on Xbox One through backward compatibility on June 25, 2016.
Development
Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space was developed with many improvements upon the first season, as gathered by Telltale from fan feedback.
Changes from the first season
Sam now could run across the screen by double-clicking the left mouse button. The locations are more varied than the first season, and Sam & Max visit more exotic locales this time around. There is a different driving mini-game in each of the episodes in this season, and decals collected in one episode are carried into the next.
Release
The series was co-financed by GameTap. The games were available on the GameTap service one day before they were released on Telltale's online distribution system (which was named, at the time, Telltale Now).
Remastered version
During the assignment process that Telltale underwent from 2018 to 2019, a group of former Telltale employees including Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell, acquired the rights to Telltale's Sam & Max games and founded Skunkape Games.
The rights holders to the Telltale name and the majority of its assets sent Skunkape everything that they could from the Telltale archives related to Sam & Max, as well as the most recent version of the Telltale Tool. Dan Connors, Jonathan Sgro, Randy Tudor, and Jake Rodkin adapted the assets to work in that version of the Telltale Tool. They also updated the models, with input from Steve Purcell, improved the lighting, and updated the assets for high definition.
The new voice actor for Bosco, which was also used in the remaster of season one, re-recorded all of Bosco's lines in each of season two's five episodes.
