Spacewar was a 2008 remake by Valve of the multiplayer shoot 'em up video game originally released in 1962.
Original game
Spacewar was developed by Steve Russell, Martin Graetz, Wayne Wiitanen, Bob Saunders, Steve Piner, and others at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in April 1962.
Gameplay
Multiple players compete against each other by shooting rectangular projectiles from triangular spaceships.
In addition, a sun in the middle of the fighting area has a strong gravitational pull.
Ships will explode when hit by projectiles or after impact with the sun.
Valve remake
The Steamworks API was made available to developers publishing games to the Steam digital distribution store on May 1, 2008. The Valve remake of Spacewar is a test application which contains aspects of the Steamworks API such as multiplayer networking over the internet and local area network, player name and avatar, and achievements, among others.
