Development

Sumo Digital and Charles Cecil of Revolution Software signed on to bring the popular long-running BBC science fiction series Doctor Who to Windows with four interactive episodes. The episodes take place during the time period of the fifth season of the revived Doctor Who and were stated by the BBC to be canon to the television series.

As the episodes were being released, Sumo Digital and Charles Cecil signed on to create more episodes.

The second series was originally announced to be "bigger" than the first season, but in 2012, the BBC stated they have no plans to release any more adventure games. So, the second series ended up consisting of just the single episode.

The actors who portray characters on the television series portray their characters in the episodes. The actors include the Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillian as Amy Pond, and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks and The Cybermen. Arthur Darvill portrayed Rory Williams in The Gunpowder Plot.

The episodes were published by BBC Wales Interactive in the United Kingdom as part of the television license which funds the British Broadcasting Company with no extra charge.

Episode one, City of the Daleks, was released in the United Kingdom on Windows on June 2, 2010 and on macOS on June 15, 2010.

Episode two, Blood of the Cybermen, was released in the United Kingdom on macOS and Windows on December 22, 2010.
