Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (born March 31, 1948) is a politician who was forty-fifth Vice President of the United States. He was inaugurated in 1993 and served in that office until January 2001.
He was preceded as vice president by Dan Quayle and was succeeded by Dick Cheney.
