BS Super Mario USA Power Challenge (BSスーパーマリオUSA パワーチャレンジ) was the sequel to Super Mario USA, the latter of which was known as Super Mario Bros. 2 outside of Japan. It was released digitally in weekly episodes, over the Satellaview on the St.Giga Broadcast Satellite network. The four episodes were released between March and April 1996, only in Japan.

Unlike the original Super Mario USA, characters are not selectable. The game begins with Mario, and the other characters become playable via events tied into the game's story. Another new addition is a score counter, as the game has a high score feature that is displayed at the end of each week.

Story

After Mario and his friends defeated the evil Mamū, the King of Subcon put statues of Mario up all over Subcon to celebrate the leader of the group that saved his kingdom of dreams.

However, Mamū was not happy about this and wanted to get his revenge. So, Mamū and his minions invaded Subcon again and stole every statue that the king had put up to celebrate Mario's victory.

Thus, Mario and his friends are summoned during their sleep to help in Subcon once more. Mario, Luigi, Kinopio, and Peach have to travel across four worlds and retrieve all of the hidden Mario statues.

Unfortunately it won't be easy as Catherine and her friends have the power to swap out one hero for another on a whim. Mamū's other goons also track the progress of Mario and his group, and may throw out bombs or other traps to try to stop them from accomplishing their goal. Ultimately, the heroes have to find and defeat Wart in all four worlds in order to once again free the Kingdom of Subcon from the terror of Mamū and his cronies.

Release

BS Super Mario USA Power Challenge was only released digitally, over the course of four weeks.

In addition to being only released digitally, the voice acting and music that accompanied the game were broadcast over satellite, so the game in its original form is no longer available.

Fans have made the digital files that have been saved by people who played the game in its original release playable in emulators. In addition, video recorded from the 1996 broadcast is available online. However, there are currently no fan projects that aim to combine the audio with the game files, as only the audio from week one and four have been found so far.
