Nippon Broadcasting System Service

Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc. founded Nippon Broadcasting System Service, Inc. (株式会社ポニッポン放送サービス, Kabushiki gaisha Nipponhōsō Sābisu) on October 1, 1966. The purpose of the company was to publish music by Japanese artists.

Canyon Records

Canyon Records was founded on August 1, 1970.

Pony, Inc.

Nippon Broadcasting System Service, Inc. was renamed Pony, Inc. (株式会社ポニー, Kabushiki gaisha Pony) in 1970.

The name was chosen based on the Pony brand name that the company had been using on its "PONYPak" 8-track cassettes beginning in 1967.
