Confinity was a company that facilitated online payments through Palm Pilot systems. It was founded by Max Levchin, Peter Thiel, and Luke Nosek in December 1998.
X.com
X.com was an online bank founded by Elon Musk, Harris Fricker, Christopher Payne, and Ed Ho in March 1999.
Confinity and X.com Merge
In March 2000, X.com merged with Confinity. The resulting company retained the X.com name. In October 2000, X.com The resulting ceased bank operations.
PayPal
In 2001, X.com became known as Paypal.
