The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts that was founded on April 10, 1861.

Zork was developed on MIT's ITS operating system for the PDP-6 and PDP-10 mainframe computers, between 1977 and 1978 by MIT university students Dave Lebling, Bruce Daniels, Marc Blank, and Tim Anderson.

Three of the students formed Infocom in 1979 and they split Zork into three parts to release it commercially on home computers of the time.
