Versions of the game
Mother 2 was released in Japan for the Super Famicom in 1994. The Nintendo of America localization was released in 1995. It was titled EarthBound, as plans for the Nintendo Entertainment System release of the original Mother as Earth Bound in 1991 were canceled due to the impending release of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America that year.
Earthbound was not originally released in Europe and Oceania, however, these regions, as well as Japan and North America, would get the game on the Wii U Virtual Console in 2013, on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in 2016. North America, Europe, and Oceania would also get the game on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Edition in 2017.
