Atlus Co., Ltd. (株式会社アトラス) is a video game developer that is a subsidiary of Sega.

Foundation

Atlus was founded as Atlus Co., Ltd. on April 7, 1996, as a developer of video games for other companies.

Index Holdings acquired Atlus in November 2006, and it operated under Index until it was dissolved in October 2010.

Aquisition by Sega

On September 5, 2013, Sega formed the shell corporation Sega Dream Corporation with the sole intention of purchasing the assets of Index Holdings.

In November 2013, Sega Dream Corporation was renamed Index Corporation.

On April 1, 2014, the information and communications portions of Index Corporation were spun off into a new corporation which retained the title Index Corporation, while the remaining corporation was renamed Atlus Co., Ltd.
