Eidansha Boshū Service Center

Eidansha Boshū Service Center (営団社募集サービスセンター, "Corporate Recruitment Service Center") was incorporated by Yasuhiro Fukushima on September 22, 1975.

Enix Corporation

Eidansya Fudōsan (営団社不動産, "Real Estate Company"), a subsidiary of Eidansha Boshū Service Center, was incorporated on February 5, 1980. On August 18. 1981, it was renamed Eidansha Systems (営団社システムス, "Corporate Systems"). On August 30 1982, it was renamed Enix Corporation. Enix is a portmanteau of ENIAC, the first digital computer, and "phoenix", a mythical bird that rises from its own ashes.

Square

Masafumi Miyamoto created Square as a division of his powerline construction company, Den-Yu-Sha in October 1983. Square Co., Ltd. was founded as a separate company in September 1986.

Eidansha Boshū Service Center companies merge into Enix Corporation

On April 1, 1989, Enix Corporation, and its two sister companies, Konika Enix and Enix Products were merged into Eidansha Boshū Service Center, which was then renamed Enix Corporation.

Square Enix was founded on April 1, 2003 as a result of the merger of Square and Enix.

Square Enix Co., Ltd.

Square Enix was renamed Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. in October 2008 and the development divisions were reorganized into Square Enix Co., Ltd.
