The Union Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) is a country in Northwestern Europe that is comprised of the island of Great Britain and the northern half of the island of Ireland.

It was founded in May 1, 1707 following the union of the Kingdom of England, which had included Wales since April 14, 1536, with the Kingdom of Scotland.
