A joystick, also known as a flight stick when associated with flight, is a controller used for operation of mechanical and electromechanical devices as well as with computers and video game consoles.

The first joystick was used on the Blériot VIII airplane built by the French aviator Louis Blériot in 1908.

The first joystick used with video game consoles was included with the Magnavox Odyssey in September 1972.
