1979 Revolution: Black Friday is an interactive adventure drama developed and published by iNK Stories.
Background
It is based on the real-life Iranian Revolution that occurred from January 7, 1978 to February 11, 1979 and culminated in the end of the Pahlavi dynasty and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Black Friday occurred on September 8, 1978 and led to approximately ninety-four deaths including sixty-four protesters and thirty government security forces.
Reception
The game received praise from most press outlets and was the recipient of numerous awards.
However, conservative media in Iran described it as propaganda. The director Navid Khonsari maintains that he aimed to have a nuanced view of the events. Consequently, it is banned in Iran. The creators translated it into Farsi and provided it to Iranians for free.
Khonsari does not want to reenter Iran over safety concerns and most of the artists were anonymous to keep their families safe in Iran.
