Barack Hussein Obama II is a politician who served as the forty-fourth President of the United States from 2009 to 2017.
He was previously an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004 before becoming a United States senator representing Illinois from 2005 to 2008.
He was the first African-American President as well as the first President to have been born outside of the forty-eight contiguous states.
He was preceded as President by George W. Bush and was succeeded by Donald Trump.
Early life
Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to an American mother named Ann Dunham and a Kenyan father named Barack Obama Sr.
He graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 with a 3.7 grade-point average. He served as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review at Harvard Law School in 1991 and graduated from that university later that year with a Juris Doctor magna cum laude.
