Minebea Co., Ltd. (ミネベア株式会社, ミツミ電機株式会社, Mitsumi Denki Kabushiki-gaisha) was founded on July 16, 1951.
Mitsumi Electric
Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (ミツミ電機株式会社, Mitsumi Denki Kabushiki-gaisha) was founded in January 1954.
It manufactured the Nintendo Family Computer controller, released in 1983. It also released the controllers for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the international version of the Family Computer, which was first released in 1985.
Mitsumi introduced the 2⅘-inch quick disk in 1985. It was used in the Family Computer Disk System, which was released in Japan by Nintendo in 1986.
It manufactured the Super Famicom controller, which was released in 1990. It also released the controllers for the international version of the Super Famicom, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which was first released in 1991.
The controller of the Panasonic 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, released in 1993, was also manufactured by Mitsumi.
Some revisions of the Sony PlayStation controller, released in 1994, were released by Mitsumi, as well as some revisions of the PlayStation DualShock controller, which was released in 1997.
Likewise, it also manufactured some revisions of the PlayStation 2 DualShock 2 controller, released in 2000.
The Nintendo GameCube controller and the Microsoft Xbox controller, both released in 2001, were manufactured by Mitsumi.
Some revisions of the Microsoft Xbox Controller S, released in 2002, were manufactured by Mitsumi.
The Nintendo Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk controllers, released in 2006, were also manufactured by Mitsumi.
Mitsumi merges with Minebea
On January 27, 2017, Mitsumi Electric merged with Minebea. The resulting company MinebeaMitsumi, was considered the successor of Minebea.
