On August 31, 1898 in Japan, Kunihiko Iwadare and Takeshiro Maeda founded Nippon Electric Limited Partnership.
In the United States, S.S. Kresge and John McCrory made S.S. Kresge Company 5￠ and 10￠ a chain with the opening of a second store.
