The Atari Standard Joystick is a joystick controller that was included with the Atari 2600 that attached to video game consoles via a DE-9 connector.
It was first released in North America in 1977, in Europe in 1978, and in Japan in 1983.
CX10 joystick
The original joystick, known as model CX10 or CX-10, was a joystick that contained one large button .
The CX was colored black with yellow details with one large red action button.
The Atari logo on top of the base was yellow as was the circle with a dotted-line that surrounded the joystick.
CX40 joystick
The redesigned joystick, known as model CX40 or CX-40, was also a joystick that contained one large button.
The CX was colored black with one large red action button, without yellow details.
The dotted line of the circle around the joystick has the word "TOP" at its top.
The switch mechanisms of the controller were designed to be easier to mass produce than the CX10.
A CX40 joystick with light colors was also available.
It had a light grey base with a black joystick and one large red action button.
It was designed to be used with the Atari XE models of computers.
Like the darker variant, the dotted line of the circle around the joystick has the word "TOP" at its top.
It also had the inexpensive switch mechanisms of the standard model.
