Sorcery Saga 1 (魔導物語1, Madō Monogatari 1) is the first part of the Sorcery Saga series.
Releases
Sorcery Saga 1 was developed and published by Compile in Japan as the first part of Sorcery Saga 1-2-3 (魔導物語1-2-3, Madō Monogatari 1-2-3) for MSX on June 15, 1990 and for PC-9801 on November 23, 1991.
Both versions published by D4 Enterprise in Japan on Project EGG on Windows. The MSX version was released on Project EGG in Japan on November 26, 2004. The PC-9801 version was released on Project EGG in Japan on December 19, 2023.
Remakes
Sorcery Saga 1 was remade several times. Each of these had changes in their stories and dungeon designs.
It was first remade as Sorcery Saga I: The Three Magic Spheres (魔導物語I 3つの魔導球, Madō Monogatari I: Mittsu no Madō-kyū) for Game Gear in Japan in 1993.
It was then remade as Sorcery Saga I (魔導物語I, Madō Monogatari I) for Mega Drive in Japan in 1996. This version was released on Mega Drive Mini in Japan in 2019.
A PC Engine Super CD-ROM² remake was released as Sorcery Saga: The Fiery Kindergarten Graduation (魔導物語炎の卒園児, Madō Monogatari: Honō no Sotsuenji) in Japan in 1996.
Fan translation
On May 14, 2020, fans Yuvi and SnowyAria translated Sorcery Saga 1 for PC-9801 from its original Japanese and released an unofficial English translation patch.
