Like a Dragon Online (龍が如くOnline, Ryū ga Gotoku Online), is an online spin-off game in the Like a Dragon series. It was released on iOS, Android, and Windows in Japan on November 21, 2018.
Plot
In 2000, a 24-year old Yakuza named Ichiban Kasuga, who was abandoned on the streets at birth and raised by barmaids and conmen, was told to retire from his life as a Yakuza and to go to prison for a murder he didn't commit. To protect his patriarch's organization as well as the Tojo Clan, he turned himself into the police station on the first day of the year 2001.
He was released in 2018, only to discover that Kamurocho had changed. It was now controlled by the Omi Alliance rather than the Tojo Clan, and it was said that Ichiban's former patriarch was responsible.
Development
The release of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life marked the end of Kazuma Kiryu's story. Because of this, the developers at Ryū ga Gotoku Studio decided that the games following it would mark a new chapter of the story, which they refer to as "Shin Ryo ga Gotaku" ("New Ryo ga Gotaku" or "New Like a Dragon"). Like a Dragon Online is the first game in the next chapter of the franchise, which follows a new character, Ichiban Kasuga.
Returning characters
While Ichiban Kasuga is the main character, several characters are available as part of his battle team, including characters who died prior to the events of the game. Each character has a substory that features them, and those characters who are deceased have substories that take place in the past. The previously returning characters include:
