Alan Cox (born July 22, 1968) is an English computer programmer.

He created the Adventure Graphic Operating System engine at Horror Soft based on AberMUD V. It was created for graphic adventure games beginning with the 1990 Elvira adventure, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. It was created using the scripting code of the 1989 adventure, Personal Nightmare. It used little else, however, due to the engine for that game being too complicated.

In 1993, he created ScottFree, a script interpreter that runs Scott Adams interactive fiction games.

An engine based on AGOS was added to ScummVM on April 12, 2002. An engine based on Scottfree was added to ScummVM on December 9, 2018.
