The '''Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union (Академия наук Советского Союза)''' was the highest scientific institution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

It was formed in [[1925]] and lasted until the Soviet Union was dissolved in [[1991]].

Under the '''AcademySoft''' label, [[Alexey Pajitnov]] developed ''[[Tetris]]'' on an [[Elektronika 60]] computer while employed as a computer engineer at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union on June 6, [[1984]]. 

''Tetris'' was ported to [[DOS]] by [[Vadim Gerasimov]], then a high school student, in 1984.

It was then expanded by Gerasimov, Pajitnov, and [[Dmitry Pavlovsky]], a computer engineer at the Academy, from 1984 to [[1986]].
