Street Fighter II′ Turbo: Hyper Fighting, known in Japan as Street Fighter II′: Turbo, was the third in a series of Street Fighter fighting video games by Capcom that were titled Street Fighter II.

History

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior was released by Capcom to arcades in 1991.

The game was a smash hit, leading Capcom to release an updated version with additional playable characters titled Street Fighter II: Champion Edition in 1992.

Also in 1992, the Taiwanese hacking group, Hung Hsi Enterprise Taiwan, released a bootleg version of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. The title screen of this version only displayed Street Fighter II. However, it is colloquially known as the Rainbow Edition because of the color of the text on the title screen. This version made tweaks to the special moves of the various characters and increased the speed of the game.

In December 1992, Capcom released Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting. While it is uncertain whether this game was released as a response to the Taiwanese bootleg, the former increased the speed of the game in a matter similar to the latter. This version also added new special moves for each character.

A third update, Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, was released in 1993.
