Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was the first film of the Roger Rabbit franchise.

Although Industrial Light and Magic had created a fully-computer generated character with the stained glass knight in Young Sherlock Holmes in 1985, computers were not yet powerful enough to perform the complex calculations needed for this film. As a result, the animated characters that interacted with the live-action actors and backgrounds were completely hand-painted.
