Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the second 16-bit game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the fourth overall.

Versions

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was originally released for the Sega Genesis in 1992. It was released in the Sonic Jam compilation for Saturn in 1997, in Sonic Mega Collection for GameCube in 2002, in Sonic Mega Collection Plus for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2004 and for Windows in 2006. It was then released for Wii Virtual Console and Xbox 360 in 2007, in Sonic Classic Collection for Nintendo DS in 2010, for PlayStation 3 in 2011, for Android, and iOS in 2013, and for Nintendo 3DS in 2015. It was then released in the Sega Genesis Classics compilation for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2018. For Sega's 60th anniversary celebration in 2020, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was given away free for Linux, macOS, and Windows on Steam for a limited time.
