It was released in theaters in Japan on January 19, 2001. Because ''Shenmue'' wasn't released on [[Xbox]], a DVD containing an English translation of ''Shenmue: The Movie'' was included with the Xbox version of ''[[Shenmue II]]''.
[[Ryo Hazuki]] was trained by his father, Iwao Hazuki, in the Hazuki-ryū jūjutsu style of martial arts. When Ryo was seventeen, a man named Lan Di who was the leader of a Chinese black market organization known as the Chi You Men came into the Hazuki Dojo seeking vengeance. He claimed Iwao killed his father, so Lan Di killed him out of revenge.

Character biography
