Sam & Max Hit the Road was the first game in the Sam & Max series. It was developed by LucasArts and released for DOS in November 1993, for Mac OS in 1995, for Windows in 2002, and for Linux and macOS on October 28, 2014.

Story

Sam and Max travel across the USA in search of a missing bigfoot.

Development

Sam and Max were the unofficial LucasArts mascots in the 1990's. They appeared in comics in the LucasArts Adventurer newsletter, and the duo appeared in cameos in most LucasArts adventure games, and some of the LucasArts non-adventures as well. The SCUMM language training game was also a single-screen adventure game in which Sam and Max were included as characters.

Sam & Max Hit the Road, developed in the SCUMM scripting language, was inspired by the Sam & Max comic titled On the Road.
