The Curse of Monkey Island was the third adventure game in the Monkey Island series by LucasArts. It used the SCUMM interpreter.

Plot

Guybrush gives Elaine an engagement ring with a large diamond that turns her to stone. He has to collect the items needed to break the curse.

Development

It was the last game by LucasArts that was developed with SCUMM and the first Monkey Island game to not be made by the original creators of the series, Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman, or Tim Schafer.

However, Dave Grossman would later make Tales of Monkey Island at Telltale Games with input during the early brainstorming sessions from Ron Gilbert. Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman would also later make Return to Monkey Island at Ron Gilbert's Terrible Toybox studio.

Versions

The original version was released in 1997 for Windows.

It was re-released using the reverse-engineered ScummVM interpreter for Windows and macOS in 2018.
