Marvel Comics is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, which itself is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.

Timely Comics

Timely Comics was founded by the publisher Martin Goodman on January 12, 1939.

Atlas Comics

Atlas Comics was founded by Martin Goodman in November 1951, as superhero comics had fallen out of fashion, and he wanted to publish comic books in more genres than Timely Comics had published.

Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics was founded in August 1962 by Martin Goodman, and after writers and artists such as Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko had made the Marvel superhero comics profitable, Marvel became the company's sole imprint.

Acquisition by The Walt Disney Company

In 2009, Marvel Entertainment and its subsidiaries, including Marvel Comics, were acquired by Disney.
