Java ME (Java Platform, Micro Edition), formerly known as the J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) is an computing platform for the development of applications for mobile devices.

The applications are programmed with a content-reduced subset of Java that runs on mobile devices in a Java virtual machine.

On December 22, 2006, Sun Microsystems released an open source version of Java ME known as phoneME.
