Like a Dragon (龍が如く, "Ryū ga Gotoku") is a multimedia series by Ryū ga Gotoku Studio consisting of video games, films, a television show, magazines, books, comics, and music.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (龍が如くスタジオ, "Like a Dragon Studio") is a production team within Sega.

It was known outside of Japan as Yakuza until the official reveal of in-progress projects by Ryū ga Gotoku Studio on September 14, 2022.
It is a continuation of Sega CS1, which itself was a continuation of Sega AM11, Sega Software R&D Dept. 4., Amusement Vision, and New Entertainment R&D Dept.

It was spun-off into the Judgment series.
Name
It got its name due to the fact that the staff consisted of the development team behind Ryū Ga Gotoku, which is Japanese for Like a Dragon.

Fictional character biographies
History
Most games in the series focused on a former Yakuza named Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima. Kiryu took the blame for a murder that he didn't commit, and spent ten years in prison. He became the sixth chairman of the Yakuza's Tojo Clan until he left to raise the daughter of his only love, who was murdered by her ex-husband, a crooked politician.
Sega Amusement Machine Research and Development Department #11, commonly referred to as Sega AM #11, Sega AM11, or Sega 11, was formed in September 1998.

In Like a Dragon Online, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the main series protagonist is Ichiban Kasuga, the Rock-Bottom Dragon. He was a low-level Yakuza, who was abandoned at birth and raised in the streets of Tokyo. Like Kiryu, he took the blame for a murder he didn't commit. However, when he was released from prison eighteen years later, he was shunned by his former yakuza family.
Sega AM11 was closed in 1999, and in May 1999, it became Sega Software Research & Development Department 4, commonly referred to as Sega Software R&D Dept. 4.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (龍が如くスタジオ, "Like a Dragon Studio") is a production team within Sega.

It is a continuation of Sega CS1, which itself was a continuation of Sega AM11, Sega Software R&D Dept. 4., Amusement Vision, and New Entertainment R&D Dept.

Name

It got its name due to the fact that the staff consisted of the development team behind Ryū Ga Gotoku, which is Japanese for Like a Dragon.

History

Sega Amusement Machine Research and Development Department #11, commonly referred to as Sega AM #11, Sega AM11, or Sega 11, was formed in September 1998.

Sega AM11 was closed in 1999, and in May 1999, it became Sega Software Research & Development Department 4, commonly referred to as Sega Software R&D Dept. 4.

Sega Software R&D Dept. 4 was closed in 2000, and on April 21, 2000, it became Amusement Vision.

Amusement Vision was closed in 2005, and on April 1, 2005, it became New Entertainment Research & Development Department, commonly referred to as New Entertainment R&D Dept. or NE R&D Dept.

In 2008, New Entertainment R&D Dept. was closed, and on May 1, 2008, it became Sega CS1.

On August 31, 2011, the Sega CS1 development team became known as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
