Sam and Max were the unofficial LucasArts mascots in the 1990's. They appeared in comics in the ''LucasArts Adventurer'' newsletter, and the duo appeared in cameos in most LucasArts adventure games, and some of the LucasArts non-adventures as well.  The SCUMM language training game was also a single-screen adventure game in which Sam and Max were included as characters.

''Sam & Max Hit the Road'', developed in the [[SCUMM]] scripting language, was inspired by the ''Sam & Max'' comic titled ''On the Road''.
