It was created by Namco on February 20, 1982 with the release of the original Dig Dug arcade game.

The video games were developed by Namco, Bullets, Creature Labs, Tose, and VerX.

They were published by Namco, Infogrames, and Namco Bandai Games.

It was spun off into the Mr. Driller series.
