Knuckles is a strong red echidna who can punch through rocks.
 
He is the last living descendent of a clan of echidnas who guarded the chaos emeralds.
 
Because of this, he is a foe of those who he believes will steal the emeralds and a begrudging ally of those who aim to protect them.
 
This has made him both an ally and an enemy of characters such as [[Sonic the Hedgehog]], [[Tails]], and [[Amy Rose]].
